Set up students for their sessions

There are three ways to add students to the TSL platform: Clever (automatic sync), CSV upload, or manual entry. Choose the option that fits your school below.

Clever (automatic rostering)

  • Once a district has shared school and roster data with Third Space Learning via Clever (see SSO help here), student and teacher records sync automatically. No manual setup is required for those users.

  • New students added to a school in Clever are synced and provisioned automatically, typically within a few minutes.

  • Student name, grade, and access status are controlled by Clever and cannot be edited on the Third Space Learning platform directly.

  • Teachers will still need to complete a short setup step per student (assigning Working Grade and Program), since this information isn't part of the Clever sync.

  • Third Space Learning can also select the program for each student using your existing assessment data such as IReady or NWEA MAP.

  • Once rostered, students should login via the Clever student portal, or using SSO through the Login with Clever button on the TSL login page.

CSV upload

  • On request, Third Space Learning shares a secure CSV template with the school or district, which follows a specific required format.

  • The school or district completes the template with the following fields for each student: First name, Last name, Password, Grade, Working Grade, and Content to be pitched at

  • Once completed, the school or district sends the file back to Third Space Learning.

  • The Third Space Learning team uploads the CSV on the school's behalf, then sends back each student's auto-generated username for use alongside the password the school originally set.

  • Once this process has been completed the CSV is deleted.

Add directly on the platform

Once logged into the TSL platform school or district leaders can add students profiles manually. This option is not available to schools that have chosen to sync with Clever.

Steps for adding students

  • From the platform sidebar, navigate to Admin > Student Accounts, then select Add students.

  • Students can be added individually or several at a time in the same flow.

  • For each student you provide: name, surname, and a password (the same password can be reused across multiple students to save time).

  • The platform then walks through: confirming auto-generated usernames (with a downloadable PDF of login details, passwords are not displayed again after this step), selecting grade and working grade, and choosing a program.

  • Once confirmed, students are added to the platform.
