Third Space Learning supports Single Sign-On for US schools and districts through Clever.
How it works
Your district admin grants Third Space Learning access to specific schools or user groups within your district's Clever dashboard. Your district controls exactly who and what data is shared.
Once access is approved on the Clever side, Third Space Learning's team adds the school within our platform. This step is completed by our team. This creates the data sync and will create student and staff accounts that have been shared via Clever.
After setup, teachers and students can log in either through the Clever Portal (clicking the Third Space Learning icon) or by selecting “Log in with Clever” directly on the Third Space Learning login page.
Account data synced from Clever (name, email, grade/title, and access status) becomes the source of truth. These fields are not editable directly on the Third Space Learning platform once synced. Changes must be made in Clever and will sync across automatically, typically within a few minutes.
If a user's access is revoked in Clever, their account is automatically archived on the Third Space Learning side, and restored automatically if access is reinstated.
If a user is deleted from Clever, we cannot retrieve them.
How a student or staff member gets access on the district's side
This is a two-part process on Clever, and both parts are controlled entirely by the district
Part 1: Getting the person into Clever
SIS sync (most common): the district connects its Student Information System (e.g. PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Skyward etc.) to Clever, which pulls student and staff records automatically, typically overnight.
Manual CSV upload: the district uploads a students.csv or staff.csv file (often via an SFTP box Clever provides) to add or update records in bulk. This is useful when the SIS sync doesn't cover staff, or when the district wants more control over exactly who is synced.
Manual one-by-one entry: individual students or staff can be added directly in Clever without a CSV or SIS sync, using Clever's Custom Data feature.
Part 2 : Granting that person access to a specific app (e.g. Third Space Learning)
Being in Clever does not automatically give someone access to any particular app. A Clever district admin must separately add and share the app: Clever Dashboard > Applications > Add Applications.
Once the app request is approved, the admin chooses a sharing scope: Share by District (all schools and users), Share by Schools (only selected schools), or Share by Rules (most granular, based on specific criteria the district sets).
Districts can also delegate this sharing decision to School Tech Leads for their own school, if that feature is enabled.
Only users included in that sharing scope will see the app icon in their Clever Portal and have an account provisioned for it.
In short: a person needs to (1) exist in Clever and (2) be included in the sharing scope for Third Space Learning specifically, before SSO will work for them.
