Previously, we referred to programmes as the way lessons were selected for each pupil; teacher selection, based on the outcomes of each pupil’s diagnostic assessment or, in the case of our SATs and GCSE Revision Programmes, for maximum impact on exam results.
Feedback from our teachers has been that while it is great to have these options for lesson selection, schools also need to be able to select specific programmes based on each pupil’s starting point and their desired end goal. We also need to make sure that key concepts aren’t missed.
We have refined our programme approach by organising concepts into structured sequences that each align with a specific goal
Pupils will still sit an initial diagnostic assessment and teachers will still have the option to select lessons themselves, but we’ve enhanced the impact and progression on crucial concepts.
Each new programme contains a progression of 20 lessons, carefully ordered by our expert academic team to help pupils meet the programme's goals. Schools can choose different programmes for different pupils, or choose the same programme for all pupils.
Each programme’s lessons follow the same ‘I do, we do, you do’ structure that you know and love, but new variable lesson ‘pathways’ mean pupils only focus on the parts of the lesson in which they need most support, as indicated by their initial diagnostic assessment and in-session tutor assessment.
Teachers are also free to review or re-order lessons at any point, including in one go at the start of the programme, saving teacher time throughout the term. Lessons can be ordered to address the gaps identified in each pupil’s initial diagnostic assessment, or into any order they see fit e.g. to align with class teaching or to use as a pre-teaching tool.
