How scheduled and self-launch sessions work, and when to use them

There are two ways your students can have sessions with Skye, our spoken AI math tutor - scheduled sessions, and self-launch sessions. Most schools use a combination of both.

Scheduled sessions

Scheduled sessions are regular tutoring sessions that run at the same times each week: you pick the exact times that work best for your schedule.

Sessions run Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM. Session length and weekly frequency are flexible, and you can change your time slots at any point in the school year.

How to assign your students to scheduled sessions:

We set your time slots up with you: contact us if you'd like to add new slots or make any changes. Once your scheduled sessions are set up, you can assign students to each time slot from the 'Sessions' page of your account.

Schools use scheduled sessions to:

  • Run weekly intervention blocks - small groups or whole grade levels can receive regular support

  • Set up before-school and after-school groups - providing extra support without increasing demands on teachers

  • Free up teachers to work with smaller groups - for example, half the class at a time can work with Skye, while the rest do whiteboard work with the teacher

Self-launch sessions

Self-launch sessions don't need booking in advance, so they provide extra flexibility.

Students can self-launch sessions by logging into their account at any time - unless they have a scheduled session with Skye in the next hour.

Students can choose any Learning Objective in their current program to work on, including revisiting Learning Objectives they've already covered. Sessions end when the Learning Objective is complete, or after 45 minutes.

How to get your students on self-launch sessions

Simple! Just make sure they have an account and are assigned to a program (you can check this in your Student Accounts page). If so, they can simply log in and launch a lesson whenever they like, provided they don't have a scheduled session in the next hour.

Schools use self-launch sessions to:

  • Run same-day interventions - a group who didn't grasp a concept in a morning class can work through it that afternoon

  • Provide extra flexibility around regular sessions - students can start new Learning Objectives when they're ready, and self-select areas they want more work on

  • Set Skye sessions as homework - students can launch sessions anywhere they can log in, including at home, Monday through Friday
