Before your pupils can connect with Skye, we need to do a quick 20 second test to make sure their headset and microphone is working. Pupils will be directed to this tech check as soon as they click ‘Start Session’ from their homepage.
The audio test:
Once pupils have their headset on, they just need to listen to the sound of the bird and make sure it’s a good volume for them. If they can hear through their headset, they just need to click ‘Yes’. This means their audio is working!
If they can hear the audio through the laptop, we just need to update the settings so the sound is coming through the headset. If the pupil clicks ‘No’ they will be asked to select the headset they are using, which will fix this issue.
The mic test:
The next step is to check the microphone. For this step, pupils need to speak into the microphone. It’s also a good opportunity to check that the microphones are in place about 1 inch away from their mouths.
If pupils have more than one microphone available, they will be asked to choose the one they want to use. We recommend always using the headset microphone, as the internal device will pick up lots of background noise in the classroom.
Granting microphone permissions:
Sometimes, you’ll need to ‘allow’ your microphone to be used by your browser. If that’s the case, you’ll see a page explaining how to do this: simply follow our step by step guide to do so.
You can always change the microphone/speaker by clicking on the pupil avatar in the session.
Once these checks are complete, pupils will be directed to our waiting room, and then moved into the classroom when it is time for Skye to take the lesson.
